The Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl (FICB) is an interactive educational game designed to help promote financial literacy and awareness among youth. Using a quiz bowl/show format, the game challenges high school students and tests their knowledge about personal finance, business, economics, and current events. In the spirit of competition, the game features teams of four students and one alternate who face off against one another, gradually eliminating each other, with the final two teams playing for “the Cup”.
This year's Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl (FICB) was held at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday, February 15. Tri-County increased the number of students involved from 8 to 13 and therefore was able to send 3 teams to the competition. The 3 teams competed against other area
students from the following school districts: Amherst High School, Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, Stevens Point Area High School, Iola-Scandinavia High School, Pittsville High School, and Assumption Catholic High School. Some of these districts, also, brought multiple teams resulting in a total of 22 teams competing.
Tri-County Team 1 was made up of Seniors Zachary Schoenstene (3-year member), Caitlin Stainbrook (3-year member), Zoriah Mills (2-year member), and Sarah Hicks (1-year member).
Tri-County Team 2 was made up of Seniors Savanna Dudek (3-year member), Jacob Snow (1-year member), Isaiah Coldwell (1-year member), and Alexis Eckman (1-year member).
Tri-County Team 3 was made up of Junior Kaila Foster (2-year member), Tessa Macik-Smith (1-year member), Melanie Prince (1-year member), and Sophomores Jake Makaryk (1-year member) and Kaylee Goman (1-year member).
All the teams did very well and battled in very tight matches. Team 1 and Team 2 won their first match and advanced to the second round of competition. Team 3 lost in the first round of competition moving to the cancelation bracket where they advance to the second round losing a close match to one of the Wisconsin Rapids teams.
Along with this event, donations were given by a variety of different businesses; student's names were drawn to win $10 gift cards from Starbucks and Kwik Trip. Twelve of our thirteen students were lucky enough to have their names drawn for a gift card. Also, a couple of students were able to get in a few games of cornhole
between their matches.
I am very proud of all of our students. They participated in the various Impact practices throughout the year to get ready for this competition and they all did a great job, handling themselves with the utmost professionalism at the event.
